Why is wired Internet slow with macbook air usi...

Hi,

I have FIOS gigabyte service, but can only get about 197/200 using wifi. I bought a thunderbolt adapter to try connecting with a cable, but get the same speeds. Is there some limit on the Macbook air, or could it be settings? Mine is about 4 years old.
