How to have Photos access directly from iCloud ...

I just recently purchased 2TB of iCloud space.  The first thing I did was moved the Photos library to iCloud.  I then disconnected the external drive where my Photos Library previously was.  Now Photos is indicating that it can't connect to the library because it was located on the external drive.  How do I now point it to the iCloud?  I do NOT want any photos stored locally.

You can't use the iCloud Photo library if it's in iCloud Drive, put it back the way it was quickly before you do irreparable damage.

iCloud is for many things, what are your settings (storing your Photos library is not one of them)?

iCloud Photo Library is for syncing libraries across multiple devices

iCloud Photo Sharing is to share limited resolution phots with other people

iCloud Drive is to store data files (not Photos libraries) on iCloud

and there are several other services not associated with Photos

Since your Photo Library is on an external drive, the drive must be attached for Photos to access iCloud. It can't connect to the Library with the external not attached.

It's for many things, but I think it might be a good idea to examine what you were trying to achieve by putting the library into iCloud Drive.

If you did it because you thought it would be permanently connected to your Mac unlike the external drive but like like the external drive it would save space on your start up disk. It won't because anything you put into iCloud Drive is also stored on your start up disk.

If you did it because you want the library in the cloud for other devices to use, that's what iCloud photo library is for.

Thanks everyone.  Much appreciate the responses.  I found that using Google Photos is the answer for me.  I will cancel iCloud additional service.
