Seagate Backup Plus Slim Not Recogized

Hi, I have a Seagate Backup Plus Slim Portable (1TB).  My device is running loud all of a sudden and my MacBook Air isn't detecting it. The light is on and it is running. Opening Seagate Dashboard tells me the disk is 100% full (I don't think this is possible, but I haven't checked the space on it in a while). My MacBook Air isn't seeing it it as a device when plugged into USB. It is listed under Disk Utility, but shows no details. I also ran a device test in Dashboard and it took a while, but passed the test. I tried to go to Restore Backup in Dashboard and it says "Backups from multiple computers found. Select the computer..." and a blank window underneath that. I also cannot click the "View Files" link in Dashboard. During the test the light was blinking, so it is responding somehow. It occasionally quiets down (or slows) and then whirrs louder again. Loud most of the time now. I have tried shutting down the Mac, disconnected all power and usb cords to it and the device for a few minutes. Still the same result.

I wasn't sure if posting here would be helpful unless someone had the same issue with their Mac.  Seagate doesn't appear to have a forum to post this and they are closed on weekends.  I don't see any help in troubleshooting topics via their website. I've googled and not seeing my same exact issue. I'm also not very educated with how mac utility stuff works, as I used to be a PC user. I have not used Time Machine to date, but after reading up, it appears I should possibly consider it with an external HD.

HELP! I need these files desperately - family photos and my business files.
