Questions on what I can do with an Ipod Touch?

I'm not that up to speed with technology so any help is greatly appreciated. I'm trying to ditch my smart phone and go to talk and text only plans to save money, and was wondering what the Ipod Touch can do since my Ipod Classic is not working properly anymore.

I will not have a data plan, but I can still use the internet, facebook and the such on the Ipod Touch through Wifi, correct? I don't care so much for Facebook just the messenger app.

Can I use the free version of Spotify?

Can I download apps to it, like the Bible app?

Roughly, how many songs can 16 gb hold? I listen to several podcast daily so storage is a big concern. Sometimes the podcasts pile up.

I would use it occasionally for pics too.

I will get an Ipod Touch for the music, just trying to figure out if I should buy a tablet for home use as well or if the Touch will meet my needs.
