Keyboard Accents Feature Not Working

I write in both English and French.

I loved the accent feature on my keyboard because I could hold down the vowel I wanted and had the option to choose the accent I wanted.  Now, when I hold down a vowel key, I get eeeeeeeeeeeeeee instead of all the accents.

I must have clicked something on my keyboard unknowingly, but I don't know how to get it back.

Reset the SMC per the directions in Intel iMac SMC and VRAM resets , this reset may take 2-3 attempts back to back to work.
