Screen dims too soon
Recently, I noticed that even though I have the Energy saver set as: Computer sleep 20 min and Display sleep at 15 min, the screen dims in about 3 minutes. The "..reduce brightness before display goes to sleep" is checked. I have tried to uncheck and recheck it, but no change. I can't seem to find a solution going through the forum search. I can try deleting the .plist, but I am not sure which one is the correct file. Any suggestions? It should. It aggravated me also. This is a function separate from the screen saver. I didn't like it either.
I have the same problem. It's really annoying sometimes. I'm a writer, and oftentimes I will write a piece and then revise and tweak and revise. Then I like to read the piece in its entirety (I'm talking a one or two-page Word document here). Invariably, I will be deeply engrossed in reading when the screen will dim dramatically (but not go black), causing me to lose my entire train of thought. Then I have to start over.
Like you, I have tried changing the settings, but to no avail. Surely there has to be a way to keep this from happening. I tried "timing" how long until the screen dims--it seems like it takes about 1 minute--but every time I try to recreate the problem, it seems like it never goes dim, so I give up and go back to work.
It's been doing it a lot today and it's driving me nuts. Hope somebody responds and that it's a simple solution. The help menus offer nothing that I can find. Surely it's not related to Word. Do you recall what application you're in when it happens. I never notice it except when I'm in Word, for some reason.
Uncheck the "automatically reduce brightness tab before display goes to sleep" button. Set your screen saver to the time you want. The brightness will remain the same until the screen saver kicks in.
I just went through every button in preferences until I found that one and tried it--just before you posted. I'll bet that fixes it. Thanks, Glenn. I'll try to remember to post if it works.

Hey guys, I'm having the same issue but cannot find the "automatically reduce brightness tab before display goes to sleep" button. Where is it? Thanks
