Numbers Blank

I am using numbers for an accounting spread sheet that seems to work very well and is shared with my wife who does most of the accounts. However regularly when she opens the spreadsheet it is blank (and also sometimes when I do as well) to restore it I have to go  into the previous versions and reload the last populated sheet (which might not be the next one there) but I am concerned that I might loose data and also wondering why this keeps happening. I am using PC and iCloud. Is anyone else having this problem and if so any ideas who to prevent it?? I am in the UK if that makes any difference!
