Can I install Sierra by itself or does it have ...
Hi, I've been asking a lot of questions lately and I really appreciate all of the great information I have received.
So I've cloned my SSD to a bootable external drive and also backed up with time machine. I'm ready to wipe the SSD clean and start fresh.
I've tested Sierra on an external drive and decided that I like it. My computer seemed to run a little faster and the heat issue seemed to disappear, so I want to install it on my SSD.
As I understand it I need to reformat the SSD. Do I need to re-install the original OS 10.8.5 Mt. Lion that I had or can I just install Sierra on the newly formatted SSD without 10.8.5?
Thank you very much
Yes, you can. Note that the Mac App Store installer can't be run on a Mac which doesn't have an OS installed; it can be installed onto a blank volume, but the computer will need to have an OS to open it.

So basically I need to re-install Mt. Lion, then I can install Sierra over it?
Thank you
