How do i restore only iMessages and contacts

How do i backup and restore only the messages and contacts, i see there is no option to select what to restore from my backups on icloud and on my computer.

I wish to start fresh, format and then reinstall only the apps i need.

I do not require the settings or wall paper or anything just the Contacts and iMessages

There is no option with a restore from backup, it's all or nothing. If you used iCloud contacts though, they aren't backed up, you might try recovering them at: iCloud.com ➔ Settings ➔ Advanced ➔ Restore Contacts

Sad. If only it were more versatile.
