In a word "HELP" please?

I am using a MBP 2013 with Sierra 10.12.6 and lately I have had several Apple (originated) App problems.

My current problem is with Preview - It won't respond and locks itself out from any apparent meats of booting. It is shown in Force Quit as 'not responding'.

Do I delete it?

Can I update a new version?

is this a System problem?

Do I go to Recovery?

Photos is equally being problematic for a couple of months - Recently deleted photos cannot be deleted except over time! Thus I cannot manage my Folders/Files. Fat Cat Software are trying to help but seem almost as bemused as me!

All too often the limited memory (8GB - not upgradeable) in my MBP and the too small SSD (250 GB - equally not replaceable) are slowing me down.

Any thoughts?
