Using Apple pencil with mail

I am not seeing any information on the Apple website that describes how do use Apple pencil with various applications including apples mail and other native Apple iOS programs.

Put the pointy end on the screen. If you know how to use your finger on iOS you can use the Pencil. Some apps support tilt and pressure sensitivity. On apps that don't the Pencil works just like a finger except more precisely (with the caveat that you can't invoke slideover with it).

LLooking for more detail.  For example how do you do a mark up in email?  Which apps have the capability to interface with it?  I am looking for a resource that is more meaningful then "if you know how to use your finger" but thanks

So far, I found that you can mark up attachments in mail, but not the body of email itself. Just open up a message with an attachment. Tap and hold on the attachment till the pop-up displays and choose Markup and Reply.

The attachment will open and there’s a toolbar at the bottom of the screen.

This is totally unclear/confusing.

How do you open a new (blank) message with an attachment??  When you initiate an new email, there are NO attachments. And what kind of attachment should you use??

WHY does the website talk about marking up and drawing on your email, and show a picture of an email that's marked up if you can't do it directly on the email?  There is nothing to indicate that the picture is an attachment....  Also, mail is listed as one of the apps that the pencil supposedly works on, but it appears that that is NOT TRUE!!!

I have a finger AND a pencil, but neither will mark up an email, as far as I can tell. I'm looking for help on how to do that as are most posters with this question, not a snarky retort. I have no interest in marking up attachments, I do that every day, but I might like to add a signature or something personal in my handwriting.

You can't mark up the actual e-mail, only attachments.

That is not currently an option.

Submit your feedback to Apple here:

https://www.apple.com/feedback

Meanwhile, if you don't like the answers you're getting, rather than being rude to the people who are trying to help you, you might want to do a search. A search for "apple pencil" turned up lots of articles, including this:

This article does not mention Apple mail...

No feedback for the pencil.

You must take a screenshot (buttons home and on/off) to make comments

You're responding to a post made before the current update. And, it was also intended to show examples of what could be found by searching.

You can always provide feedback under the iPad category as the Pencil can only be used with an iPad. As long as you explain in the text what you're giving feedback about, Apple will understand.
