Iwatch battery problem after upgrading phone

I have a 1st generation iwatch.  The battery was fine until I upgraded to the iPhone 7.  Ever since then, my watch battery doesn't even last 6 hours.  It doesn't even hold a charge when turned off.  I charged it to 100% at night, powered it off and when I turned it on in the morning, the watch was dead.  I have unpaired it from my phone, repaired it, set the watch settings back to default, and Apple support tested my battery.  They told me the battery was fine, but to have them look at it, it's $199 because it's out of warranty.  Anyone else have that problem?
