iTunes 12.6 crashes continually when attempting...

iTunes 12.6 on 10.11.6

1) iTunes quits every time I attempt to view my library under the Movies category.

2) all content under TV shows is appears as watched - when previously content was marked as unwatched.

iTunes depression continues...

No crashes....

Deleted content purchased from other country stores (related to where i was living at the time) .. no crashes since (and I tried!)

Hopefully it helps.

Hello mariotheplumber,

Thanks for using the Apple Support Communities.

I see that iTunes quits every time you attempt to view your library in the Movies category. Also, all content in the TV category appears as watched, even though previously watched content was marked as unwatched.

I recommend starting your Mac into safe mode to test this issue. Safe mode (sometimes called safe boot) is a way to start up your Mac so that it performs certain checks and prevents some software from automatically loading or opening. This can help rule out any third-party apps or processes that could be causing this issue.

OS X El Capitan: Start up in safe mode

If you don't notice the issue in safe mode, take a look at the login items that open automatically when you log into your Mac to see if there is a conflict. Also, check to see if the TV shows are still showing as watched.

OS X El Capitan: Open items automatically when you log in

Let me know if you have any questions.

Have a great day!

hello sterling r, thanks for the advice.

Safe mode didn't experience any crashes, but to be honest didn't use it for too long as the screen flicker in safe mode makes the thing unusable as the screen flickers every-time you move the cursor.

Watched status hasn't reset recently, but it will at some point.

Some of my playlist are showing up across every media kind which is weird. Anyway I deleted them in the appropriate category, so I'll see if that reoccurs.

This is a fairly recent new install on a brand new SSD, so I'm not going to reinstall OSX and as it's no longer possible to just reinstall iTunes - I'll live with it for now. However future content will be purchased from other than the iTunes store, cause I need it simple.

Thanks for your assistance.

Anyone, anything?

Mine has just started doing this as well.  I added the Rogue One digital HD content from the store, and now every time I switch to Movies it crashes.  Running 12.6.0.100 on iMac with El Capitan.

Any fixes?

@Karadek...Does it always crash as soon as you go into the Movies category? or, if you don't do anything once in the category does it remain open?

For me, 40% of the time as long as I don't attempt to do anything then it will remain open, but if you try and search, scroll, amend data then it will crash. It doesn't crash in the Home Movies category.

- Movie category:700Gb / Home Movies:102Gb - on a 2TB external disc. I have 2 copies of the disc (1 clone / 1 manually duplicated copy) in addition to TM backup - doesn't matter which I use.

It nearly always looses all the unwatched flags on reopening.

It happens when I try to scroll down, although to be honest, I haven't tried just leaving it be.  I'm trying to get down to Rogue One, and we have a lot of movies.  Once my phone finishes updating, I'll try it.

Nope.  Mine crashes about 10-15 seconds after switching to the movies tab/scroll down choice.  Even with me not doing anything, it still crashes.  This is really inconvenient.

Mine has now taken to crashing more often than not as soon as switch to movies category. Sometimes it loses the 'unwatched' flag, other times not.

As you said, "inconvenient".

Movies is basically unusable now on the Mac!

At least it's an opportunity to save money as it's where I do 99% of my purchasing from.

Apple TV is still for the most useless, as it doesn't provide the functionality to see what's watched or unwatched.

Reasons for buying into & using the Apple ecosystem are for me, diminishing day by day. It used to be that products worked and felt seamless. Not for a long time now. (Whinge over)

under preferences did 2 things:

- Sharing, changed to share just playlists, excluded Movies

- Downloads, deselected automatic downloads

Not crashed since. Maybe it's coincidence or maybe I just got lucky. But from crashing immediately to no crashes.

Ummh.

Will post if changes.

No crashes.

Tested sufficiently (open & closed lots, scroll as quick as you like, edit metadata, switch between categories) to believe either or both settings are definitely related. Functionality loss, but at least it's usable now.

Fingers crossed.

:-(

added some downloaded content to TV Shows - iTunes crashed immediately after the download was complete & and has crashed each time it was opened since, but it still only crashes when Movies category is selected.

Weird.

I give up, had enough. Will just buy content elsewhere in future.

I have the same problem did you resolve it in the end.

unfortunately not, still an issue.

Not sure what's next.

Think it's  something to do with  iTunes library on external hard drive.

Just hoping for a update to fix it
