Filevault and annoying fan activity

Hi There,

Since I've installed filevault, with the slightest increase in activity the fan begin to work on maximum level. Opening a new tab in browser or tasks used to be done in silence (like scaling an image in photoshop) now bring the fan to full speed. Forget about a complex web page or video which make the fan scream.

Please note (A) my computer is not slower since filevault installation and (B) I'm sure filevault successfully finished the initial encryption months ago and its no stuck. I've looked into my activity monitor and when the machine is idle, the system use is on average 2-3% and user between 3-8%. Tasks like spotlight index and time machine backups of course rev up the fan which I consider normal.

I'm annoyed by fan noise and want to uninstall filevault before it wear down the fan. Is decryption going to be as time consuming as the encryption? Any surprises?

My machine info:

MacBook Pro (13-inch, Early 2011)

2.7 GHz Intel Core i7

OS:10.12.6 (16G29)

500GB Solid State SATA Drive

Kind regards,

Kasra

The fans won't wear down that fast, but them being active all the time is strange. Have you tried resetting the SMC?

Reset the System Management Controller (SMC) on your Mac - Apple Support

Thanks for the reply. Please note the fan is not running on maximum all the time, but it become more active than before filevault. I'll try the SMC resetting anyway and let you know if it helped.

Hi again,

FYI SMC is reset now. No considerable change.

Kind regards,

K
