Problem with app store.

My app store on my iPod touch 5th generation has stopped working.  I tried to update a number of apps and it seems to have quit in before the updates were complete.  Now I have some apps that will not open or delete.  If I try to download a new app, it appears to be downloading, but never appears on my screen.  App store no longer asks me for my log-in and password.  What can I do to fix this problem?

Thank you - this did work on the third try.  The first two times, the apps would start to update and then freeze before completion.  Third time was the charm.
