Added Windows Printer Queue

We recently began adding our Windows Print Queue for "Follow me printing" to Macs in our office. Add printer, use the hidden advanced menu, smb://<nameofprintserverandqueue> and everything was working well. We added it to several of the IT department macs without a problem. When the user prints it syncs up with the their Active Directory account at the printer so they are able to tap their RFID badge and select their documents to print.

We get to our first user's mac and add the queue in the exact same way (yes, we even made an SOP to ensure it is exactly the same) and everything goes exactly as expected. The problem is that as soon as you try to print anything the queue goes to "Paused" and when you click "Resume" it just returns back to "Paused" after a few seconds.

The following troubleshooting steps have been taken:

  • Remove and re-add queue
  • Reset Printing System
  • Remove admin requirement from user to "Pause" and "Resume" the queue
  • Log in as an administrator and re-add the queue
  • Several Restarts

Users computer: Mac osx Sierra 10.12.6

Host of Print Queue: Windows Server 2012

Any ideas on what we should try to continue troubleshooting?

We're having the same problem.  If you remove a functioning printer from one of your IT Macs, and try adding them in the same way now, does the problem happen now?  We're wondering if it stopped working because of a patch. We updated our Macs 13 days ago, and are now experiencing the same problem when we add printers exactly as you described.
