SSD Issues (FAT32/EFI)

I'm having some disk issues.

For my SSD, DISK Sensai records disk "Health" as 9%

EtreCheck and TechTool Pro are listing SMART codes 1, 5, 9, 12, 192, 194, 197, 199, 174 and 175 are failing (169, 173 and 164 are okay) and TTP9.5 gives its status as "failing"; Q is this really a sign of incipient failure or simply SMARt not really being able to recognise SSDs?

On top of that I can see disk0 is set to GUID_partition_scheme_disk0 and one partition (disk0s1) is named EFI and formatted as FAT32. Is this right, to run on INTEL hardware MacOS needs an MS-DOS partition in order to run?

Note; I do not have bootcamp running in any way.

Q3 is, I guess, given i'm running a MBA 11" (2013) I'm guessing this machine is now end-of-life?

Hello Frog-one,

Are you having any noticeable, functional issues with the drive? The partitions you describe are normal.

The SMART status in EtreCheck is just the output from smartmontools (https://www.smartmontools.org/). I have no idea if the results are accurate for the built-in SSD your machine. Reading SMART reports is like black magic. I don't know if they are valid with an SSD at all.

Hiya, thanks for confirming the FAT32 issue.

TechToolPro 9.5.x must use the same smartmontools output as the report codes are identical. Sadly I can't look into DISK Sensai as each time I try to access the disk health menu is crashes the software ... ;-((
