Airdrop multiple files

I am trying to send multiple files from a Mac (10.12.6) to an iPad (ISO 11.01). I can select them and on the iPad I see the number of files to be sent. But I can send only one file. Is this the way it should work?

I suspect this is a limitation of the interface.
