Recover lost files when updating to IOS11

The journal entries, dating back several years, in My Daily Journal, v. 3.0.1 were all deleted when I updated to IOS11 on my iPad. How can I recover them?

Was this journal entry in Notes?  Were you using iCloud Notes before?

No, it was in the app, My Daily Journal, v. 3.0.1
