Why does iPad Pro lock on camera after ios11 up...

I swiped left three times to see new set-up after ios 11 update and camera opened. I was unable to exit the camera app using the home button or any swiping motions (and no other buttons available).

I even tried taking a pic to see if that would work but no........ I had to power down my iPad Pro in order to get out of camera!

What am I missing here?
