Touch ID and imessage

Is their a way to setup touch ID so I could use it to login to iMessage?

Please elaborate, what do you mean by "login to iMessage"?

When I start iMessage on my iPad iMessage asks me to login with my Apple ID and Password. I'd like to just use my fingerprint, just like I do when I unlock my iPad

If I understand you correctly the functionality you're looking for does not exist. Here's were my contusion starts. When you first start iMessage, in the settings app, it will ask for your Apple ID and Password but that's the only time. After it's activated you can use iMessage. It's not like you have to enter your password every time you use the Message app. So for me, using Touch ID to login to iMessage is not necessary.

On the ios 11 will we be able to lock our messages using touch id?
