Can I use the new apple watch without a phone?

Is it possible to use an apple watch completely alone?

No - a compatible iPhone is still required in order set up and use Apple Watch:

• Apple Watch Series 3 (GPS + Cellular) requires an iPhone 6 or newer with iOS 11.
• Apple Watch Series 3 (GPS) requires an iPhone 5s or newer with iOS 11.

Once it has been set up, your Apple Watch can be used without the iPhone for various features, depending on the circumstances, as explained here:
