Updating Apple Watch Series 1

I recently updated my IPhone 6 to iOS 11. I'm now trying to update my Apple Watch, but it's stuck on the screen that says "checking for update." It has been almost 2 hours. It will not allow me to do anything with my Apple Watch until the update is complete. I have restarted both my phone and the watch, but it keeps getting stuck on that screen. What should I do?

The same thing happened to me. What I did was unpair my watch then pair it back again. That worked perfectly for me and now I have Watch OS4. If that does not work contact Apple support as either a chat or a call. Good luck!
