I am on a late 2014 Mac mini running Sierra 10.12.6

 

In mail, when viewing emails if I drag the "divider bar" down to the bottom of the window it gets stuck there and I can't drag it up to preview emails.

In mail, when viewing emails if I drag the "divider bar" down to the bottom of the window it gets stuck there and I can't drag it up to preview emails.

 

Position your cursor on that divider bar then drag it up. Drag it farther than you have been doing, much farther. There will be no visual confirmation of that action until you drag it more than halfway to the top of the window, or full screen if you are not using windowed mode.

 

When you drag it a sufficient amount, the message body portion of the Mail viewer window will reappear.

 

To fix the same problem when not in Mail's "Classic" layout, you have to start at the right of the Mail window. Instead of dragging that portion of the window up, you'll be dragging it left.
