All FILES in Documents are deleted (sierra)

Hi,

Problem: All FILES in the Documents folder are gone after upgrading to Sierra. (Folders are still there)

What I have done:

Upgraded to Sierra
Activated "Desktop & Document Files" under System Preferences / iCloudDrive
Thought that is a bad Idea after a view minutes and turned off iCloudDrive on my mac
On the Question that came up "All documents stored in iCloud are removed from this mac" I answered "Keep a Copy"

NOW ALL FILES ARE GONE. Everything .

help desk says "engineers flipped the restore switch" but nothing was returned.

i'm in shock!

Such an important event needs a thread of its own, hanging off of the end of someone elses issues is not enough,
