MacBook Pro 15" Touch Bar Freezing and Lock

I own a Late 2016 MacBook Pro 15" Touch Bar (2.6GHz, 16 GB RAM, 256 GB SSD, Radeon Pro 450 2048 MB, Intel HD Graphics 530 1536 MB). MacOS 10.12.2. This device was bought 3 days ago to replace my old 2011 MBP 15" with a failing graphics card.

While working on an image in photoshop with 5 to 6 tabs open in chrome, mail, message, spotify, and a few finders windows I had the entire system lock up. The mouse moved around but I could not click on anything. The touch bar worked but it was not able to force quit any application. If I went to the mission control view, the display would get stuck in the view and moving the mouse to click on any window did not change anything. I left the computer like that for 15 minutes and came back, no changes.

This has happened multiple times today. Everything would lock up and the MBP was unusable. I had to hard reset by holding the power switch/Touch ID until the computer rebooted.

- 10.12.2 didn't solve the issue.

- FileVault is activated.

Tried troubleshooting with and without bluetooth mouse connected, connected to power and on battery, and closing everything after reboot vs. restoring everything. Have not found the cause for the random "hangs"/freezes yet.

Anyone else facing similar issues? Any solutions?

A new Mac comes with 90 days of free tech support from AppleCare.

Please call AppleCare.

I'm having the same problem. I'm going to make an appointment at the Genius Bar, but since it is intermittent and random, I don't know what they'll be able to figure out.

I called Apple Support and sent them screen shots of the distortion under the copy window and explained the issues. They said they wanted to capture my device to see the issue and told me I could go and exchange it for a new one.

I have been experiencing this as well, oddly on the 3rd day I have owned this. Any solutions?

I've read in another post that the new update, 12.2.3, might fix this issue. Other than that if you call AppleCare, they may be able to offer help. If they get enough issues and can diagnose the problem they can work on a fix.

I'm on 12.2.4. Called several times, only seems to work in safe mode. Huge bummer

Edit. 12.2.2. Don't know where I got .4 lol

Did not have this in 10.12.1   its started with 10.12.2

Extremely annoying! even stacks on the dock get stuck.

anyone found a solution yet? or Do u recommend a Genius bar appt?

In a sense, my Touch Bar froze today where I could not adjust the volume. I tried adjusting the volume from the Touch Bar, then it slid back by itself to where it was set initially. Then, I tried adjusting it from the menu bar; it slid back, on its own, to its initial position there too. Freaked me out really! I kinda got nervous and put the MacBook to sleep. After waking it, all was fine. No freeze, if that's what you would call it. Not sure it would even be classified as a Touch Bar freeze at all. Just reporting in.

Sorry for the delayed response, I've been busy with the holidays and people coming over. I do recommend calling Apple Tech Support first to make sure a Tier 2 person takes note of this issue. Additionally, they may recommend you take the device in for a Genius Bar appointment where they may diagnose or replace your device.

Hopefully, a software update solves this issue.

Same here, do you have any solutions yet?

Took mine to Genius Bar and showed them the issue. They reinstalled the OS and it fixed the issue. They advised me to bring it back if it happens again and they will give me a new one. Yesterday I noticed if I delete the widgets on the desktop, it creates the issue again. Will be taking mine in for a new one.

I've experienced this exact issue about 3-4x now, I've managed to get out of it before by clicking around but it doesn't always work.

It's pretty intermittent and completely random but it seems that I'm always using Safari when it happens.

I agree that this issue is intermittent. Although I haven't seen any correlation between Safari and the freezes. I have noticed a couple times the freezes occurring due to copy and paste functions or movie files from the downloads folder in the dock to another folder or the trash. Other times it occured while copying images from the downloads folder photoshop.
