problem restoring icloud backup

im trying to restore my ipad via icloud. i tried restoring through itunes and had none of my pictures or apps. but back on topic, i will put in my icloud password, and it says "could not sign in, there was a problem connecting to he server"... please help me

Incorrect.  That message is not to do with incorrect username and password.  Those were checked, double checked and triple checked.  Only way I got it to work was to switch the iPad off completely, restart it and then re-enter the same details.

I am having the exact same issue today after having my iPad Mini swapped at the local Apple store.  Now i have a useless piece of metal and glass that will not restore due to the same message

I had exactly the same problem (double-checked my userid/password, etc), and only a cold reboot allowed it to get past the error message.  Thanks for answering your own question, wattsn  ;-)

Restarting worked for me, now its restoring from iCloud...

I just hope i can get What'sApp to restore properly this time.
