Keyboard stutters, but only when logging in

I've got an Apple Wireless Keyboard which, when I log in to my Mac, always drops letters.  I have to either switch to the keyboard on my macbook pro, or slowly type on the wireless keyboard, re-tapping certain letters, if they don't register.

The odd thing about it is that this only happens when logging in.  After that, the keyboard is fine. 

I've done a reset on the keyboard, but that's not corrected the issue.
Has anyone else come across this - and found a means to fix it?
