Finder Sidebar shortcuts to ext volume director...

I have this issue with regular volumes connected over USB connection (not talking about networked drives here).

When volumes are disconnected from my Mac the links often disappear in the sidebar and when the volume is reconnected they often don't reappear. No consistency for a start, removal of many shortcuts is frustrating.

I've tried creating symlinks (plus see this Stack Exchange Think Different thread here) and putting them in these in the Finder sidebar instead and even symlinks get dropped from the list of shortcuts. Any ideas? Why is this malfunctioning in the first place?

with me they always dissapear after disconnect.
