We have two G-Technology products, G-Speed and G-RAID which we use for archiving all of our RADA films and rushes. Recently we have updated the OS on our mac to El Capitan and since then we haven’t been able to mount either the GS or GR via the ESATA cable anymore.

I read on another forum that this might be due to the PCI card and that it needs updating in order for the mac to read the hard drives, is this true and if so how do I go about updating this correctly. Under system preferences and hardware I discovered the PCI card we have currently is ATI Radeon HD 5770.

If the upgrade to os 10.11 is responsible for the fact I can no longer mount my hard drives with ESATA, does any one have any recommendations for how to resolve this?

Some Users have reported that certain third-party drives came formatted for Windows New Technology File System (NTFS), and the drive included a simple Utility to allow the Mac to read and Write Microsoft-proprietary NTFS Volumes.

Since El Capitan has tightened the requirements for system extensions, the NTFS Driver does not load and the drive can be read under MacOS, but not written.

If this is the situation, the proper solution would be to copy the data off, re-initilize the drives to Mac format or a non-proprietary format such as exFAT, and copy the data back to the drive. A quick work-around would be to buy an NTFS Writing add-on from  Tuxiera or Paragon.

The ATI Radeon HD 5770 is a graphics card, so it is not responsible for the problem.

Check again in your System Report for the model of PCI card that is installed in your Mac Pro,

go to About This Mac, System Report, Hardware, PCI.

You probably need to update the drivers for the PCI card that your drives are plugged into, not the ATI Radeon.
