What happened to iTunes

I loved iTunes. Then Apple had to fix what wasn't broke and now there's Apple Music. I don't want to pay a monthly fee. I want to download songs I like. I want to download the songs I already paid for on my iPad. When I open iTunes on the ipad it says I have no purchased Music. But when I search for the album it says purchased but doesn't give me an option to download it to my device. What gives? How do I listen to my music? I'm not paying $10 a month when I already had over 1000 songs purchased through iTunes.
