12.4: create AAC version missing? how to bring ...
is this a bug, user experience (poor) choice, or maybe now some hidden setting somewhere?
i have some lossless CD's from ages ago that i've been slowly converting to 256 AAC, as i notice them. was easy to do - just select the tracks, then right click, then bam. now... it's missing. how can i get it back?
It's still on the menu bar, under File -> Create New Version -> Create AAC Version.
Go to menu iTunes>Preferences and in the General Preferences tab click 'Import Settings'. Set 'Import Using' to 'AAC Encoder' and set 'Setting' to the quality you want.
Then from the 'File' menu choose 'Create new Version'>'Create AAC version'.
It's still on the menu bar, under File -> Create New Version -> Create AAC Version.
wow, i would have never, ever found that. i kind of understand why they moved it there. but, given that, i gotta say they really did a bad job with having no onboarding, to at least tell users where things moved. the least they could have done is a "what's new" under help, and a list of moves/changes. so, thanks!!
That command in the menu bar was previously there. They just removed that command from the contextual (right-click) menu, along with some other commands.
I found the new menu option, but I still don't get why Apple has "simplified" the contextual menu like this. True to their nature, the contextual menus made it so easy, and now doing some simple functions like this has become cumbersome. They also removed "Download Album Artwork" for just selected songs as well (and that feature didn't move anywhere--they just removed it entirely).
Apple, if you're reading this, please give us those features back! (And yes, I already submitted feedback and suggest others who agree do the same... www.apple.com/feedback)
Thank You very much!
I found this same problem
When I checked the Import Setting and Import Using it already said AAC Encoder. I also checked the File menu... no option for create AAC version.
Thanks. Was missing the Convert step.

It is no longer there. It appears to have been removed completely now. There is no "File>Create New" anymore. It seems they really don't want people making their own ring tones. Even if I convert it to M4R first and then put it in iTunes, the **** program won't recognize it.
You are responding to a post more than a year old. In the latest iTunes it is under File / Convert.
It's still on the menu bar, under File -> Convert -> Create AAC Version.
