Touch ID preference pane

How do I reinstall my Touch ID preference pane ?

any suggestions?

Thanks,

Paul

Double click on the file located at the following path:

/System/Library/PreferencePanes/TouchID.prefPane

In Finder, press Command ⌘ + shift + G, then paste the above path name.

I tried it, and restarted the Mac still doesn't open the pane,....

Try opening System Preferences, then in the menu bar, go to View > Customize. See if the Touch ID pane appears, and if so, click the check box to enable it, then click "Done" in the window's toolbar.

It was enabled, I reset it but it still doesn't want to work, my PREF is at Zero bytes,...

I guess I should back up a little bit... what is the underlying issue? Nothing happens when you click on it? It's unresponsive?

The option to use my fingerprint disappeared, it has happened before but just has lost my fingerprints, I was always able to open the Touch ID Pane. Is there a way to reinstall it?

Thanks,

Paul

As the Touch ID pane is part of the system, you would need to either reinstall macOS, or download Pacifist, and download the macOS Sierra installer from the App Store, point Pacifist to it, navigate to the path I listed earlier, and then "Extract" the file to its default location. The former will likely take longer; the latter is more technical.

To reinstall macOS, hold the Command ⌘ + R keys while booting up, then choose the Reinstall macOS option.

To do the Pacifist route, get it from here: CharlesSoft — software you always wished someone would write, then go to the App Store and get the macOS Sierra installer. Download both and then follow the instructions above.
