Over the past few months, my iMac (21.5" Early 2013) has been running noticeably slow. Upgrading to macOS Sierra didn't help. The effect increased to the extent that it froze on startup (the grey Apple loading screen). I managed to copy my data to an external hard drive by running from an Ubuntu USB (which worked fine) and reset the iMac. The same thing happens, it will load the login screen, then crash when I attempt to enter my password. My older iMac did this as well and I fixed it by installing Windows, but this one is only a few years old and I need it to run Mac OS! Any suggestions on how I can fix this?
Thanks in advance!
