802.1x issue on sleep

Hey guys,

We're having consistent issues with enterprise wireless on our 802.1x networks at our satellite offices (Sonicwall AP) . In the office we are using a mixture of MacBook Air's and MacBook's, when the Mac wakes up from sleep, it still thinks that it's connected to the wireless and authenticated, but according to our network guys it had timed out on the AP side and it just isn't trying to renegotiate. Disconnecting and reconnecting to the wireless will get them back on again until the machine goes back to sleep. I read a few articles from a couple years ago in OSX 10.10 with issues that sound similar, but those issues were apparently fixed in 10.11/10.12, the laptops I've been testing are on 10.12, so it shouldn't be an issue, should it?

Other things I've noted, the issue does not occur on our Main office network (Cisco AP's) or our Guest WPA2 network (on the same Sonicwall AP), nor does it affect any of the Windows laptops on the Sonicwall enterprise network. The network is WPA2 Enterprise, using a certificate which is manually installed on the laptop to authenticate the user through Cisco ISE. Any idea what is happening?
