Urgent Help with Mac needed please

Hi everyone,

My girlfriends Mac has stopped working since we moved house. We presumed it had fell and got damaged during the move but after further research it seems to be the black screen of death.

The light comes on when I turn it on and also I can hear the beep when it starts up.

I tried connecting it to a HDMI on my TV and it comes on the screen there but most of the times as its logging in the screen just goes completely blurry and it doesn't log in.

On the odd times it does login its just the background image and noting else. I can see the cursor and I know its in extended mode and I tried all the keyboard shortcuts to get it to display the same screen like cmd + F1 but no luck.

I tried everything on here too: https://osxdaily.com/2014/11/22/fix-macbook-pro-booting-black-screen/

Now after trying them when I try and boot up I can hear "to use English as the main language please press the return key" so I presume my Mac is in Recovery Mode.

The screen is still black and when I put it on my HDMI the Apple Logo and a login bar comes up and then the screen just goes white and then grey.

I don't have the exact model sorry I can get that when I get home from work, its a older model though a few years old.

Any help would be appreciated as I'm pulling my hair out trying to fix it and just don't have the money at the moment to get it repaired.

Thanks very much.

Dean

Try booting into the Recovery Drive. Hold down Command R when restarting your Mac. It's takes a bit for Recovery to mount so hold down the keys until you see the gray screen with the box in the middle.

Depending on what version OS X you have installed, your screen might look slightly different.

First select Disk Utility and run First Aid on your Macintosh HD.

If the drive is OK, then select Reinstall macOS.

Thanks for your reply.

Will this work if the computer is automatically booting into Recovery Mode?

And will it come up on the TV through a HDMI?

Thanks.

I found that from your links but my Mac wont start in safe mode for some reason I tried for ages.

Is their anyway for me to stop it going straight to recovery mode?
