MACBOOK PRO 2015 WIFI DISCONNECT FROM SLEEP YOS...

Hello, I recently bought a brand new macbook pro 2015 13.3 inch edition last month and when I close the display lid or put my laptop into sleep, and wake up the display my network settings says that my wifi is connected but safari web pages and other internet features don't work and I have to turn wifi off and on again for it to work again. I've tried absolutely everything already to try to fix the issue such as reseting; pram, smc, removing plist files, removing and reseting pefferred networks, adding new location and reseting service order, clean install of El Capitan 10.11 and updated to 10.11.2 and even got my airport card replaced and macbook pro replaced shorty after. Before I replaced it, it ran El Capitan. And now the replaced macbook pro is running Yosemite 10.10.5 and the issue is still here.

I found a temporarily solution which was to download nosleep program extension Yosemite version which permanently disables sleep function but eventually it may damage my display. I want to know if anyone found a proper solution to this problem? My wifi works well on all my other devices such as my: 2 pc's, chrome book, iPad and iPhone. It just gives problems on my macbook pro only. Is anyone else experiencing this issue? And have you found a proper solution that I didn't mention? also I have Time Warner Cable and I have a 2 in 1 modem router by Arris model DG1670A which has 2.4 and 5G bands and the issue happens on both frequencies. I also have the 300/20 DL/UL plan which allows to connect multiply devices to the internet if that helps. I tried my macbook pro on a neighbors wifi connection and on the apple store wifi connection it didn't disconnect and worked properly but I didn't get to try it for that long to determine if it was working well.

Im thinking of buying another internet modem router but I don't want to spend the money if its not gonna fix the issue and if this problem can't be fixed would it be wise to return my macbook pro?

FOUND A SOLUTION: After updating to macOS Seirra 10.12.6 I am no longer experiencing Wifi disconnection issues after sleep. My guess is that it was an issue with the previous OSX and macOS operating system software and the issue finally caught Apple's attention in the recent update. Please if anyone does update do this at your own risk knowing the pros and cons of updating your operating system. Best of luck to you all.

Hello NYFAME,

Thanks for using the Apple Support Communities!

I understand that you are having unexpected Wi-Fi connection drops when your Mac wakes from sleep. It appears that you are connected, but you are unable to connect to the internet.

To begin troubleshooting this situation, I suggest using Wireless Diagnostics to help you identify and resolve any potential issue.

Thanks for the reply Joe_7399. I've tried this and it doesn't work unfortunately. I also retried it yesterday night and it still doesn't work. The only solution that seems to work for now is to download the no sleep program extension at https://code.google.com/p/macosx-nosleep-extension/. And go to preferences and check enable no sleep utility at start up and go to energy saver settings and toggle turn off display to never for both battery and power adapter mode, so the sleep function doesn't override no sleep. Lastly, never put your laptop to regular sleep instead use click on no sleep icon and lock the screen instead. If your on El Crapitan you won't be able to use the lock screen feature instead you will have to just close your macbook pro lid instead.

Im still testing out my macbook pro and Im looking for a more permanent solution, if I do find one I will post it on here. Guys you have similar question or the same question be careful with no sleep program and do not abuse it and leave your laptop screen on for hours because it can SHORTEN THE LIFE OF YOUR DISPLAY. Its recommended as soon as your done using your laptop you lock the screen, or close the lid or turn your laptop off when your done with it for the day.

I have this EXACT problem. I bought a new MacBook Air 13 inch last month, and same thing happened - when I closed the lid, or the computer went to sleep automatically with lid open after period of time, it would not reconnect to wifi on wake. This only happened with longer sleeps - just closing and opening lid wouldn't do it (so it was impossible to replicate in Apple store without sitting there for 20 minutes while my computer went to sleep for awhile). I tried EVERYTHING you mentioned above, too. Nothing worked.

Finally I just returned the computer and swapped it out for a 13 inch MacBook pro, which I have had for 1 week.  Right out of the box, exact same issue - won't reconnect to wifi after going to sleep. Wifi shows that it is fully connected to my home network, but there is no actual connectivity (cannot load web pages, etc). I have to turn the Airport on and off to make wifi connect.

I also have Time Warner, same modem/ router combo unit. But, I truly believe this issue is not with our modems or even El Capitan. I have a 2010 Macbook Pro 15 inch running on the latest version of El Capitan with absolutely ZERO wifi issues. It is literally sitting on my desk next to my brand new 13 inch MacBook Pro, they have identical settings in energy saver and network preferences, and when I let the two computers go to sleep for the same amount of time, my old MacBook Pro is always connected to wifi on wake, and the brand new one NEVER reconnects properly.

If it was the modem or router then both computers would have the issue. If it was El Capitan, both computers should have the issue too. There is something clearly messed up with the wireless card (?) or something on the new MacBook Airs and Pros and it is so, so frustrating.

Sorry this post doesn't offer you a solution. I've spent hours and hours combing for help and not finding a thing. I came across your post and just wanted you to know you are NOT alone!!!

Thanks your the reply erin278 and yes this is the most annoying issue I have faced with an Apple product and I've owned a couple of Apple products in the past. I have the same issue as you, went to the Apple store many times and there was no proper solution and even got my wifi card (REPLACED) and even returned my 2015 macbook pro 13 inch for another macbook pro 13 inch and it still happened. I also used a neighbors connection and the wifi disconnection problem happened on his connection and he has Verizon linksys router I believe. Thank you for your concern the temporary solution for me was to stay on Yosemite and download this program called (NO SLEEP). With the program I'm able to use this function called locked screen which instantly shuts off the display and backlighting on the keyboard and requires password to access the computer on wake up. So basically, I use that as a permeant sleep function instead of regular sleep. Its also very helpful because I could download stuff in the background while the screen is locked or while lid is closed. However though, the program can damage your display if abused which is why a lot of people don't recommend it but this has temporarily solved my wifi disconnection problem on Yosemite and it also gave my macbook pro a new feature. Thanks again for letting me know that I'm not alone.

Hi Guys. I also have this problem. Would be great if Apple could suggest a fix.

Not sure if this is of any help but you may feel like trying it. I have many wifi connections that I'd like to keep so I don't want to try it.

Hi Callahan - I tried that option long ago. I had about 35 networks stored from every place I'd been - various homes, friends' homes, hotels I frequent, etc. Deleted them ALL, and it made absolutely no difference.

I went back to Apple today and exchanged my brand new MacBook Pro for yet another brand new one. The techs at the genius bar had no suggestions for this issue. Ran wireless diagnostics and found nothings wrong. I am hoping my THIRD brand new Mac in 1 month will not have this problem. Otherwise, I am just going to keep swapping them out until I get one that works properly.

If anyone has new suggestions I am all ears... But if someone tell me to delete the Plist files, reset the PRAM or NVRAM or whatever other RAMs there are, set up a new network location, or check or uncheck any of the boxes under energy saving preferences, I might scream!

Hi - I have had endless problems with wifi on my Macbook air, tried everything as you say! Not sure it's the same problem but it was worse after a sleep. I was also thinking about a new router, but tried one more thing which has worked now for two days.... I accessed my router settings (Virgin superhub) and refreshed trusted devices under MAC filtering - in fact I removed my macbook from the trusted devices list (but it has been re-added automatically). Before this I sometimes received a message that another computer was using my IP address so I had tried setting static IPs but that hadn't worked. When I look at the trusted devices list now they are all on separate IP addresses, so this may have been connected. Anyway - still working 2 days later.

I don't know if this is the same problem as yours, or even whether it will work long term, but it was constantly dropping or taking ages to connect before I did this so fingers crossed!

Claire.

This fixed the issue for me.
