Problems between Sierra 12.12.x and Canon print...

There were several threads during the past couple of months, about Sierra 12.12.x getting hung up in the boot loop, due to incompatibility with installed Canon printer drivers.  Happened twice to me, once when upgrading to 12.12.6, and again when trying to install the latest driver for my PIXMA5750. Required complete recovery from time machine or new system installation, and was a major hassle, each time. The printer currently is unusable and I'm scared to try a third time, without assurances that the incompatibility is resolved.

Irrespective of the possibility of any "deep surgery" in the system software, does anyone know whether the problem has already been resolved between Apple and Canon?

Note also, that High Sierra is not yet available for download in my area.
