Apple support security questions

Hello, a week ago I contacted apple support for retrieving my Apple ID.

I was called back from England for support. I was asked of my imei number of my phone, answers of my security questions, where I live, my address, phone number and few more tricky questions. Now I am a bit worried. 

Can anyone tell me are these questions part of general procedure to verify whether my id? 

They have sent me an email to reset my security questions after 24 hours. 

Person who was on the phone stated that he is from Apple and I should trust him. I am a bit worried.
