MacbookPro Connected to WiFi, But No Internet

My MacbookPro just faced a problem connecting to the internet through WiFi, despite being successfully connected to my wireless home network with a strong signal.
This quick fix solved the immediate problem: FASTEST FIX! Mac Connected to WiFi But No Internet - YouTube

But I am interested in finding out what caused this problem to occur, seemingly out of thin air.
If there is an underlying problem, what is stopping it from causing the same malfunction with the new WiFi "Location"?

Before finding the quick fix on YouTube, I restarted my modem, did a factory default reset, and contacted my local ISP. Nothing helped, and my local ISP told me that they had a strong connection to my modem (= internet should be available from the modem). I then tried to connect my MacbookPro to my wireless iPhone hotspot, with the same result (connected fine, but no internet). When I then connected my MacbookPro to the iPhone hotspot with a USB cable, I could suddenly access the internet. When I then found the quick fix on YouTube, I could access the internet through my home WiFi again.

I also wanted to check if my old iPhone 5 could access the internet through my home WiFi or if it would have the same issue as my MacbookPro. I turned off the mobile data and lo and behold, my old iPhone 5 was surfing the web without a hitch. This suggests to me that the problem is with my MacbookPro, and not my modem or home WiFi network.

What do you think is the underlying cause of this?
