iTunes 12 sidebar missing

This complaint is a bit of a 3-part complaint...

1.  The iTunes 12 sidebar is gone.  I've read numerous other complaints on the site about this issue, and have seen the resolution given, which returns a limited, non-complete version of the sidebar.  Close, but no cigar,.

2.  When searching on this support forum for iTunes 12 sidebar, I get no results.  Simply browsing through the first 3 pages of threads reveals no less than 4 that should have matched if the search function worked.  This needs work.

3.  I would implore everyone looking for a resolution to the missing iTunes 12 sidebar to leave feedback on the official Apple feedback link, which I will provide below:

https://www.apple.com/feedback/itunesapp.html

I fully realize as I'm posting this that there is no resolution to my issue.  I can only hope that my title as entered will actually show up in searches for others' edification.

1.  Go through each of the sources Music, Movies, etc. and select Playlists. Use the ellipsis ... to enable the sources you want to see. Apps, Tones, and Internet Radio don't have a Playlists button, the others do and remember your selection. Not quite the same as it used to be, but not too different. Other view controls are available from the drop down at the right-hand side.

2. The search features on this forum are somewhat inscrutable, particularly the initial quick search tool. Google may serve you better although I can usually find what I want here. This is a search on the terms iTunes 12 sidebar limited to the iTunes for Windows community space.

3. Apple don't generally monitor these boards for feedback or bug reports. You can report problems via the relevant feedback form, e.g. iTunes Feedback, or sign up for a free Apple Developer Connection account and make use of Apple Bug Reporter.

I would draw your attention to the terms of use at the foot of the page, in particular 1.2.4 "Do not post polls or petitions or links to same." It is one thing to tell someone where to post feedback if they ask, quite another to seek out threads just for the purpose of encouraging feedback and with no other constructive message.

I do appreciate you giving the answer you've given to several others, which does make a passing attempt at restoring the lost functionality.

I also appreciate you warning me of a possible infraction that could be construed as a TOS violation.  However, in regard to that, I would say that I did not intentionally seek out other threads with the intention of solely requesting that they leave feedback.  Rather, I found those threads while searching myself for an answer to the problem for which I am attempting to find a resolution.

I can only hope that the Apple moderators don't see fit to remove me from the board over what amounts to a total of 5 posts.  I'm not searching out any further threads, and my intentions were solely to be helpful to those users that might not easily find the link to the feedback.  As a matter of fact, I would not have found that link myself had I not come across it in an article off-site referring to this missing sidebar issue.   Perhaps the feedback methodology should b e more prominently displayed.

In any case, I do not intend to share the feedback link any further.  I've given it to the users who had the same problem as me at the time I searched; I will now simply wait and hope that a positive resolution to the problem will avail itself in short order.

I'm with you Haidon. Every time these people push out a downgrade of iTunes it defaults to Fisher-Price toy phone appearance mode and I have to go look for the sidebar command. This time, like you, I can't find it, and also can't get support help from Apple because the support site wants a serial number which doesn't exist for iTunes running on Windows. I clicked on the Playlists button but the "sidebar" you get there isn't anything like as functional as the old one. AND when you click on the Music icon at the top of the list it goes back to Fisher-Price mode. You can't sort, find, scroll, grab a piece of music and drag it into a playlist. They've removed a valuable organizational tool and ticked me off and cost me time.

No worries.

They hid it from view in the past.  Now it's completely gone.  I much prefer an open viewable navigation method, and now that's gone.  So what else are they going to mess up?  I guess it's time to move away from Apple completely.....

The Nerds are fixing things that aren't broken again. Woe is us.

Apple is already falling behind in cell phones and if they keep removing things that a lot of people use as we all saw with iTunes 11 and again now with iTunes 12.  They are as bad as Microsoft removing the start menu from Windows 8.  I'm just glad I kept a copy of a previous iTunes 11 full installer so I could reinstall iTunes 11.  Yes, I saw how to show a deprecated version of the sidebar.  You can only see 1 type at a time.  The Samsung Note 4 is looking better each day with Apple continuing to do things like this.

Good idea.  Dumb of Apple to eliminate the sidebar.

I have no idea *** was going on in Itunes 12. I have about 250 videos in my itunes file and scrolling through them in the new version made the systems crawl. I could search for a movie I knew the name of but it would be missing in the alphabetical list ??? I haven't even attempted to look at music side of this.

Im not sure how TT2 ^ managed to get that screen view as I played with it for a while and was unsuccessful.

Really, what is the point of removing the sidebar? I know its not just me because every time there is an update there are numerous threads of people looking to put it back. I guess this is what I get for blindly letting the system update. I'm still waiting for a fix for my ipad as IOS 8 hurt it quite badly.

I've submitted a feedback to Apple regarding this and downgraded back to 11.4. Actually I shouldn't call it a down grade because it works better and does what I want. Really all I want/need is an alphabetized list with the ability to transfer items to my phone or ipad.

You can't sort, find, scroll, grab a piece of music and drag it into a playlist. They've removed a valuable organizational tool and ticked me off and cost me time.

Actually this feature is still available but it's not very obvious. If you grab a bunch of tunes from one of the Music lists and drag them to the left, a temporary sidebar appears with your attached devices and playlists. You can drag the songs into an existing playlist, or to an empty space where it will create a new one. The sidebar will then disappear, and you'll have to click on one of the Playlist tabs if you want to edit anything. Awful design.

It looks as though it's also possible to drop tunes straight onto an attached device, and it's "sort of" smart in that you can only drop them onto a device that doesn't have iTunes Match enabled. Where those songs actually go if you do this I have no idea. I haven't been brave enough to try it and Apple's track record of buggering things up is legendary.

On the whole iTunes 12 on Windows is a bit of a minor disaster. It's much slower to navigate between devices for syncing purposes, the interface stalls and hangs at regular intervals making it even slower, updates from the App Store no longer show any information or change logs so you have to take all the updates on faith, the progress bar for copying operations stutters and hops around like something from Microsoft in the mid 90s, if you put the PC to sleep and wake it up again iTunes loses its connection to any attached devices and you have to unplug them and plug them in again, and at one point one of my "new device detected" icons briefly appeared on top of Thunderbird's menu while iTunes was in the background.

Apple, your devices are things of beauty and your physical engineering is legendary. But someone really needs to invest in a copy of Windows Development For Dummies.

That's not the sidebar.  That's not even close.  It's just another sidebar with very limited information and is basically useless.  The original sidebar that folks here are talking about and would like to see returned allows full navigation of the entire iTunes media and devices.

I agree 100% though that this is an awful design.

I found what Apple has delivered as the "new" sidebar. First, let me say that I hate it. With that out of the way, I think the biggest hurdle is that this version of iTunes puts the concept of the "Playlist" into the forefront. When the "PlayList" button is selected, the interface looks much like it did in previous versions. However, instead of ALL types of media showing up, there is still the second step of selecting either Music, Video, TV Shows, etc...

I actually don't use iTunes on the Mac that often, I do most of my management directly from my iPhone. In my head, I am still mostly on iTunes 9, so I might not be the best resource. I think in time, I will get used to this interface and probably agree that it is actually a better design, but again, at the moment, I hate it, and was not in the mood to learn a new interface...

I think the Apple could at least offer a choice (old UI, new UI) and although I understand that some of the underlying data management model may have changed to support this new UI, the original underlying model should have been left in tact (OK, sorry, that might  be a little too techie speak).

My advice...select the PlayList button in the middle, plug in your device and then navigate around the left buttons -- Music, TV, Video, Device, etc...

I just upgraded to i tunes 12 and totally hate it, I dont like all these **** pictures and especially the loss of the sidebar - because i work with music files that are simply files, often self generated and I just want to sort through and put them in a playlist. That was my big attraction to i tunes in the first place because it was 10 times easier to do what I wanted, than it was with windows media player etc.

but in I tunes 12 I was able to get a passable recreation of history by selecting "playlists" across the top and then "songs" from the right hand pull down menu. does this work for anyone else?

I didn't claim that it was. Re-read what I wrote and especially the bit that I quoted for context. Clue: it's about dropping songs into playlists. Nothing to do with the old sidebar.
