Battery life on 2017 MacBook Pro (non

My 2017 non-touchbar MacBook Pro is showing rather poor battery life. With the battery at 75% and safari open with wi-fi connected and brightness at 30%, activity monitor estimates only about 6 hrs of remaining time. Is this normal?

Look in Activity Monitor to see if something is running in the background: Open Utilities > Activity Monitor > click on CPU > click on %CPU > click on it again, if necessary, to get the highest numbers to the top of the list/column. What are the highest numbers and the Process Names? Taking a screenshot and posting it may be easier.

That number is an estimate, which is frequently wrong. All that matters is the actual run time you get. Your MBP is supposed to get up to 10 hours. In my experience, they rarely do. About all you can do is reset the SMC: https://support.apple.com/en-us/HT201295, and if no luck, call Apple tech support and see what they have to say.

It could depend on what background apps are running.   They will always take a %age of the available power.

With out Office 365 I only get 2-5 hours of battery life on my MacBook Pro, if I install and use Office 365 I get approximately 45-60 minutes of operational use.

I'm not sure how accurate that is. I have a 2017 15" MacBook Pro and usually use it plugged in.

I disconnected the power cord and set brightness to 30% and mine is showing 6 hours and 8 min.

I would hope it would last longer than that.
