Airprint problems. Brother printer, broth...
Brother printer mfc-f4510dw, DLink ...-655' assorted apple i products. All I stuff connected to network. Printer connected to network, prints from win-7 dell laptop. When using brother iscan/iprint the printer can be found an I can scan or print. All other apps can't find the printer. Back ground. Everything worked for years but the DLink quit so I replaces it with the same model used the same pass code but.
I have three access points to the house. They all set up with same name and password. I think the printer gets mixed up somehow. It happened again tonight . Everything fine once I unplug the closest access point then plug it back in.
I'm having the same problem with my brother laser and ios 7. The workaround for me is to manually wake the printer. Then everything works fine, until the next time it goes to sleep. This worked fine with ios 6.
I had the same issue with my Brother HL-3170CDW.
After hours of troubleshooting, and after trolling the support site, I couldnt find a solution. On a hunch, I deleted the home network from my IPAD and I also deleted my manual setting for my DNS. Then rejoined my home network then the printer showed back up on the IPAD! It prints wonderfully too.
Okay, so I recently bought the MFC-9340CDW and it has the same problem that you describe. I tried the solution suggested above - forget and reattach the mobile device to the home NW - it has no effect.
Tapping the printer to turn on always works, but its not convenient. I found a way to wake up the Airprint interface of the printer if you get a 'No airprint printers found' error on your IOS device. As I wrote in detail here a part of my review:
The solution: Bookmark the following page in your mobile browser
https://ip address of your printer/net/net/protocol.html
If you try and print a document and Airprint says "No printer found", just load up this page in your browser bookmark from your mobile device. Loading this page seems to wake up the Airprint interface and now try to find the printer again - it will work. If it did not , make sure you refresh that page linked above.
I was having this problem with a newly purchased Brother laser printer and used nubilemobile's solution for the iPad. Not a very elegant solution though.
However, this appears to be an Apple problem, not a Brother problem. Google Cloud Print from an Android phone finds the printer even when it is in deep sleep. Maybe the protocol doesn't include a command to wake the printer from deep sleep.
Same here, I have purchased a Brother DCP-9020CDW and experience the exact same problem. "No AirPrint Printers Found" until I wake up the printer. From time to time, especially when I restart my iPhone it can find the printer even it is on sleep mode, but most of the time it doesn't work. It seems to be an iOS 7 problem, since with my first generation iPad that runs iOS 5.1.1 it works flawlessly.
Interesting however, that it seems only to happen with Brother printers…
Many thanks for this workaround. I have recently purchased a Brother HL-3140CW, and it is very hit and miss as to whether I receive the "No airplay printer found" message. Sometimes I will find the printer no problem, other times I will not. The printer is in "Deep sleep" mode.
Your workaround definitely does the job, but it's obviously extremely frustrating to have the problem in the first place. It also adds an extra step to what should be a very simple process for my (non tech savvy) parents to learn.
I have experienced the problem on an iPhone 5S (iOS 7.1) and an iPad mini (also 7.1). I am unable to test on an Android device, so personally I'm unable to point the finger squarely at Apple as in the case of js2345.
I do have an old iPhone 3GS, which is running iOS 6.1.6. However, I'm not sure this is much use for testing, as even when my 5S is connecting to the printer OK (i.e. I do NOT receive the "No airplay printer found" message), the iPhone 3GS cannot connect. I find this strange, since lemon-kun mentioned above being able to successfully connect with an iPad running an older version of iOS... 5.1.1 compared to my 6.1.6. Is it device specific rather than OS specific as to whether airplay devices can be connected to?
Since all of the posters in this thread are having problems with brother printer, has any one contacted Brother on this issue? What did Brother say?
I had a thought after posting this... checked out the support and download site for the printer, and a firmware update was available...
"30/01/2014 Main: 1.16 / Sub: 1.04
- Corrects the issue of not printing correctly using the AirPrint™."
Needless to say, the updated firmware is now installed (as of five minutes ago) and I'll let you know how I get on. That release note does fill me with some hope though!
Also worth mentioning, the printer I ordered (and received today, so very recent) shipped with the previous firmware version installed, so this is something Brother have looked at within the past five months:
- Improvement to help with the performance of the machine.
First test after installing the new firmware and waiting for the printer to go into deep sleep - "No airplay printers found". On the 3GS, 5S and the iPad mini. When I tried again immediately after, the printer was found on the second attempt on all three devices.
I'll leave it for a while and see how it goes on the next attempt. Not quite so hopeful now though...
I just bought the brother MFC-9340CDW today and I am having the exact same issue you are. When the printer is awake, everything from IOS prints perfectly, but when it goes to sleep, you can't find the printer. So I called customer service, the first thing she said is that it's an issue with apple! (Really? Then how come I have no problem with my HP printers)
I asked about the firmware and she said I needed the newest version, however it wouldn't address the AirPrint issue.
So, the only way to make this printer work with AirPrint is to go up to it and manually wake it up before you print.....REALLY Brother?
I'm returning this piece of crap tomorrow
The workaround provided by @nubilemobile is simple and works just fine. We like the printer so much that we used it. However, we have found that just using the IP address of the printer in the browser wakes it up. It's an extra five seconds at the start of printing. The HL-3170CDW is so superior to the two Samsung laser printers we replaced that it's worth the tiny extra step.
Well as I've now discovered, the latest firmware (for my printer) doesn't appear to help. Even if the release notes do state "Corrects the issue of not printing correctly using the Airprint".
I was pretty optimistic when I read that and installed it, but I'm still having the problem. The workaround does fix it temporarily though...
I will get onto Brother and see what they say. I'm not sure how they can shift the blame to Apple. Surely the fact they've already released a firmware update supposedly fixing an Airprint issue shows they believe the problem is their end somewhere.
Solved!!!
All of a sudden my mobile devices and my macs could not find my brother mfc-9340cdw printer ( linked via WIFI). Airprint did not work. The PC's downstairs could see the printer but it was offline. Could not log into the printer. I checked the printer and it connected to WIFI just fine; however, it was invisible to the network. I could see the printer on the router but could not log into it directly. After rebooting the printer several times, I was able to see it on the PC's cabled into the network. I updated the firmware. It would print from the PC but the Macs could not find it. I could not log into printer from PC but not the MAC by entering the IP address of the printer.
*******************************Solved everything by unplugging the wireless access point that was serving the printer and MACs and plugging it back into the wall. I guess, some glitch had occurred in the access point which screwed everything up. ****************************************
Everything works fine now!!!!!!!
Hope this helps. This was very frustrating. I had tried all of the other advice on the net already.
P.S. printer set on WFI mode, "auto" boot, static IP address
