Does encrypting an SSD drive reduce its life?
I just cloned my system drive to a 2TB internal SSD drive (WOW...talk about a SPEEEEED INCREASE!!). Now, I'm wondering about whole disk encryption through FileVault. From what I've seen, the encryption process touches every block on the drive. Knowing that excessive use on SSDs can reduce their lifespan, is it a good idea to enable FileVault on an SSD drive?
Thank you!
Provided you have enabled TRIM with the Terminal command:
sudo trimforce enable
... that re-writing will be negligible.
Thank you! I have enabled TRIM.
