how to transfer data from ipad to icloud

My iPad is slow probably due to the data storage is almost full.  I have a cloud account and am assuming that I can move the data to that location and speed up the iPad.  I'm just not sure if my assumption is correct and I don't know the process to transfer the data..

iCloud is a syncing service. As such it maintains a local copy of anything you move to iCloud on the device you moved it from.  Which means no space is actually saved.

Depending on what data you wish to transfer you may able to save space. Things like photos can be uploaded to iCloud Photo Library, and then optimized on the iPhone to save space.

If your aim is to free up space on your iPad, iCloud is generally not the way, however.

You may want to transfer content onto a computer instead.
