iPad 2 suddenly stopped syncing messages with iPhone 6?  Tried syncing iPad on iTunes to no avail.

You need to check your Messages settings on both devices under Settings>Messages>Send & Receive. Make sure the Apple ID signed in is the same, the iPhone number shows up on both, and the email addreses are the same.

iTunes has no ability to sync messages.

You can restore a backup that contains messages.

Messages will arrive at each of your devices independently of each other. They don't sync using iTunes or iCloud.

I am having this same issue. I have an iPad Pro and just got iPhone 7. Messages are received on both devices but they are not deleted from both devices ie I have to manullay delete from iPad and iPhone, it's not synced for deletion???

(Emails are syncing, just not messages). Any help appreciated. Thanks

Messages are not synced between devices, so deletions must made be on both.

The messages arrive on both devices independently of each other, so must be removed the same way.

Its weirded that they use to sync with my ipad Pro and my iPhone 5c... Thanks, will shut messaging off one dev as that is far too painful, spend enough time on technology as it is    

I had the same issue with my biz partner who uses a Samsung.  Most of my other contacts use IMessaging.  I had to go into Settings > Messages> Text Message Forwarding and turn on iPad.  I'm not sure if this was turned off during an upgrade, but now all is well once again.  I hope this helps!
