macOS Sierra: No audio on Bluetooth headphones ...

I'm on macOS Sierra and have connected JLab's Epic Air earbuds via Bluetooth.

The audio is fine when I'm playing via iTunes. The headset controls work, and iTunes shows two options: Computer (Epic Air) and Bluetooth (Epic Air).

But there seems to be a problem with the Bluetooth controller switching sources. When I pause iTunes to watch a YouTube video or any other audio source, ALL audio on the computer is muted. The audio only resumes if I press play in iTunes again... meaning I can only hear YouTube videos if I ALSO have iTunes playing over it.

The issue does not resolve with me closing iTunes nor by switching between the Computer (Epic Air) or Bluetooth (Epic Air) options in the iTunes audio output preferences. My computer preferences show Epic Air for audio output.

It resolves itself, but takes 45 seconds to a minute to do so. Meaning, whenever I want to switch to a different audio source, I need to pause iTunes and wait for that amount of time before I hit play on anything else.

I've seen just a couple threads on this issue going back to 2014. I've reset NVRAM and it hasn't solved the issue.

Your issue may be the same one I had, which is actually a Flash Player on Mac issue. The browers flash was not using the OS based settings at all for me in both Firefox and Safari. Try this solution, open the browser you are trying to play the audio on, and right click somewhere on the Flash rendered player, and then select settings. Then select the Speaker Icon and try changing your output device to your bluetooth headset, see the screenshots below:

This finally got it working for me, hope it helps!
