ipad needs activation again?

Hello..my 6 year old ipad has a message to activate it. After a few minutes,  it says the activation server is busy, connect to itunes, try again later, or contact support.  I'm stuck in the loop! Any ideas? Thanks.

Did you try to connect it to iTunes?

 

Make sure you download and install the latest version of iTunes, currently 12.6.2: https://www.apple.com/itunes/download/

I can't access anything beyond the activation screen to be able to connect to itunes..
