LG UltraFine 4K Display issues macbook pro Sleep
So I have a brand new MacBook Pro 15inch max memory, max video memory. I have two of the new LG UltraFine 4K Displays. When my machine comes back from sleep the primary monitor will not come back. I can type my password to login even though the screen is blank. I have to unplug the monitor and replug it in to get the display back. Its bad enough I can't daisy chain the two screens but how can I at least avoid having to unplug the monitor several times a day.
Since you just got this, I would contact Apple support, they might give you a better answer:
Hey Sonicray,
I don't think its a hardware problem. Its a software problem.
I have same issue, contacted support and engineers are looking into a solution. Should hear back hopefully tomorrow. Unbelievable and very frustrating to say the least.
I have a similar problem, my MacBook Pro 15' with Touch Bar always crashes when it is in Standby with the LG 4K UltraFine attached to it. SleepWakeFailure is usually the reason. The machine always restarts! Very frustrating. I tried resetting the SMC, NVRRAM / PRAM, booting in SaveMode, nothing worked. Now I have to reinstall macOS. VERY frustrating, especially since this monitor was created in partnership with Apple and was introduced on Stage during the Keynote!
Also getting an issue with sound cutting out now. If I am using airport at work and sleep my laptop I have to kill the audio process to get sounds to come back. Very upsetting.
I'm having the same issue. MacBook Pro 15" w/Touch Bar is constantly crashing with LG 4k display connected. Even got a kernel panic. One week with no display connected, and 0 crashes. Called Apple and they weren't able to help. Anyone have a solution or do we just have to wait ?
My Touch Bar buttons also stop responding often (i.e.: single volume and brightness key stop working, but up/down buttons continue to work; entire bar goes black when selecting emoji in Messages) but that's a separate thread I'm sure.
Thanks all,
Dave
Hey, my Touch Bar has exactly the same problems as yours, also the crashing of the MacBook is the same; Apple support couldn't help me either. But I already found a workaround: don't close the lid of your MacBook when you put your Mac to sleep with the LG4K display attached; I had no crashes since I do not close it...
So just put it to sleep via the Apple Menu and do not close the lid, it worked for me.
But still, the situation is very frustrating if you cannot close your MacBook without it crashing, and MUST be addressed by Apple very quickly!
This is an image of the Touch Bar not working: also very frustrating, Apple Support could not help me, only way to put it back to work was pressing the fn key which shows the function keys and then the touch Bar worked again.
I Will try and leave my lid open. I have two identical screens attached and I don't usually leave the MacBook screen open at all. I will try that to see if it helps things at all. Happy to supply log files etc. if anyone in support wants.
What I have discovered is that the display not waking from sleep issue happens when there are two power sources for the MacBook Pro - either two displays providing charging power, or one display and the power adapter. I have a case escalated with Apple Support on this.
@webdeck, that is interesting information. That makes it difficult for me since I have two displays and I have to also have power pac plugged in to work. The monitors simply do not supply enough power.
I have a MBP 13" with TB and (2) LG Ultrafine 4K displays and have the exact same issue. Only (1) of the LG displays wakes from sleep. I am experiencing several sleepwakefailures per day which result in crashes and restarts. I have also experienced the loss of sound issue.
I have been in contact with Apple Support for nearly (3) weeks and still no resolution. Apple engineers conducted a capture on my MBP and sent me another MBP but the issues continue.
The fact that the monitors cannot be daisy-chained is frustrating but the fact that they do not work properly is ridiculous. Apple does not seem to have any answers so I will be returning all of the hardware.
Any update on this? I am having these issues too.
unfortunately I'm have ing the same issues. Two LG 4G connected and only one will wake. Even if I leave the lid open I have the same issue. My Mac is also very sluggish after waking.
