Failing Mac Mail

I bought my mac  and year and a half ago, and my mail has never opened without crashing immediately.  All of the fixes I read online don't seem to help.  I'm running El Cap 10.11.6 and mail 9.3.  I've tried dumping the container.  I've tried opening Mail and Restarting the Mac safely with tht Shift key down.  I get this every time.  I've decided its time to sort this out
